Mouse Introduction

Originally two of the baby mice were given away, but my friend who took them could no longer keep them. So of course I agreed to take them back. I wanted them to live with their mother and sisters though, so I decided to re-introduce them. I made this page in case anyone was interested in introducing mice. Here is how I introduced mine. First, I put them all together on neautral territory. Neautral territory is a place where the mice have never been, or a place where none of their smells are around, so that they can't claim it and fight over it.

I let them sniff and examine each other. Then I put them in seperate cages again while I scrubbed the tank and all of their toys. Everything has to be scrubbed. This is to ensure that the mice can't claim anything of their own.

When the tank was clean and dry, I put all of the mice in it. I made sure there was lots of food and lots of places to hide. This is the point where you just keep an eye on them. Yes, they will fight. Usually you don't have to worry, it's just them deciding on who's boss. After a few days the squeaking and fighting should settle down.

If not seperate them and try again later. It is really not hard to introduce mice, it just takes some time and patience. Luckily mine worked out on the first try and they all get along wonderfully.

Here are some pictures from their introduction:
