Your hamster needs a place to nest and nesting material. He will fill his pouches with food and hide it under his nest. This should be cleaned every day or two. His nesting material should be cleaned only every month or two. Any more may upset your hamster and you should never completely remove food or nesting. He should have a few choices of a place to nest. He may decide on two places or may move his nest from time to time. There are several small houses you can buy, some connectable cages offer small hide-aways and your hamster will probably invent some of his own. Gizmo squeezes between his wheel and the edge of his cage. The best nesting materials are found around the house. Gizmo uses Kleenex that I first tear in strips. Toilet paper also works. Any nesting material should disinegrate in water. You should NEVER buy your hamster fluffy bedding as there has been many cases of hamsters dying from this product. Hamsters will put their nesting in their pouches and the fluffy bedding can get stuck. This product is also not safe to ingest. |
