Buying a Hamster

The best time to look at hamsters is in the early evening. Hamsters are noctural, so they are more likely to be up and about.

When choosing a hamster, pay attention to his demeanor and condition. Avoid hamsters that are immobile or lethargic; they should be alert, curious, and active. The hamster's breathing should not be labored or noisy, and the coat should be clean and free of wetness. If you observe a hamster in the cage with diarrhea or respiratory problems, be aware that all the hamsters in that cage may have been exposed to an infectious disease.

If the place you go has sick hamsters or poor conditions, do not buy there. Make sure the seller has good knowledge of hamsters.
